Ernest (Ernie) Leroy Erickson, 80, Springfield, passed away on August 18, 2009. He was born December 22, 1928, in Dallas County, Mo. Ernie retired from the Missouri National Guard. He was a master craftsman who devoted hours to perfecting any project. He was a member of Seminole Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Lee and Lizzie N. Erickson; wife Ruth; one brother, Webster Lee Erickson; and one sister, Juanita Glor. He is survived by two children, Carolyn Current and husband, George, and Steven Erickson and wife, Kathy; step-son Raymond Abernathy and wife, Patty; grandchildren, Nicole Lawrence, Noah Current, Neeley Current and Stephanie Erickson; great-grandchildren, Addison Lawrence, Caden Current, Nick Current and Elsi Current; and step-grandchildren, Michelle Carter, Michael Abernathy and Ashley Abernathy. Ernie with his vast knowledge, sense of humor, and unlimited love and concern for his family will be deeply missed. Funeral services will be held in Greenlawn Funeral Home South, 441 W. Battlefield, Springfield, on Saturday, August 22, 2009, at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2009, in the funeral home. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society.
