LAFORCE, Mr. Ernest (Ernie) From Russell, passed away on October 18, 2009 at the age of 93 years. Defenceman Ernie Laforce played one game for the Montreal Canadiens in 1942-43. He was best known as a top senior player in Quebec where he played many seasons. The Montreal native was a fine playmaker on the Verdun Maple Leafs and the hometown St.Pats in the late 30s and early 40s. In 1942-43 he joined the senior Montreal Royals and was recalled for one game by the Habs as an injury replacement. After his brief exposure to the NHL, Laforce anchored the Royals' blueline for seven years before retiring in 1950. Son of the late Romeo Laforce and the late Claire Cholette, he was the spouse of the late Huguette Berger. Predeceased by his son Robert, he leaves his daughter-in-law Liette of Ottawa; his grandsons, Justin-Philippe and Alain-Gabriel Laforce of Ottawa; one sister-in-law, Grace Berger of Montreal and a very good friend, Sandy Geerts. Predeceased by a brother Albert. The visitations will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday October 23, 2009 at the Lafleur Funeral Home & Chapel, 874 Notre-Dame, Embrun. The religious service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday October 24, at the Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church of Russell. Donations to the association of your choice would be appreciated.
