ELSIE ROSE ROOT Elsie Rose Blum Root, 91, of McGraw House, Ithaca, NY passed away peacefully at the Hospicare Residence on May 22, 2010. Elsie, daughter of Clara and Max Blum of Trumansburg, NY was born on July 27, 1918. Elsie was predeceased by her parents, brothers Harold and Walter Blum, husband Carl Root and her Welsh Corgi, Rufus. She is survived by daughters Sylvia Cacciotti and Nancy (Gary) Westfall of Ithaca, NY. Grandchildren Bryan (Tracy) Cacciotti of Buffalo, NY, Andrea "Missy" (Gregory) McCartney of Camillus, NY and great-grandchildren Meghan and Michael McCartney and Bryan Alexander and Nicholas Cacciotti. In the 1960's Elsie was a secretary with the Tompkins County Highway Department and the Automobile Club of Ithaca in the 1970's. Elsie and Carl retired in 1975 to Seminole, Florida where they enjoyed the sun and the beach. After Carl's death in 1990 she remained in Florida for another six years and then returned to Ithaca to be closer to her family. Throughout her life Elsie enjoyed the arts, travel, fine wine and food. She dabbled in painting, her family today enjoying the fruits of her labor. Elsie was a veracious reader who loved biographies and culture. She loved to engage in conversations about our country's future and many other debatable topics. Always young at heart, Elsie was a "classy" lady who loved her friends and family. Elsie's family would like to express our eternal gratitude for the support and care provided by Hospicare of Tompkins County and to countless others who helped her sustain a long and healthy life.
