HARRIS, Elsie Margaret (nee Williams) 1910 - 2006 Ninety-six year old Elsie passed away 8 November 2006 in Banff, Alberta. Elsie was born 24 April 1910 in Plaistow, Essex, England. June 1913 her family Immigrated to Canada sailing from Avonmouth to Port of Quebec on the Royal George. They traveled west to stay with the Stanford grandparents in the CPR Coal mining town of Bankhead, Alberta, before moving to Banff that December. She grew up in Banff and attended the new brick school. Many of her summers were spent with the Stanford and Copley families in Bankhead. At sixteen she started work in the Hub Candy shop. At seventeen while working at Gus Barakus's new Banff Cafe, Elsie met Reg Harris. Reg and Elsie were married 12 April 1928. In 1936 they bought a former Bankhead home on Spray Avenue, raising children Marg and Art, and Scotch terriers Sandy and Robbie. Elsie has seven grandchildren, (Art and Gail) Jodi, Tim, and David, (Marg and Alf) Susan, Margo, Mike, Steve. Ten great-grandchildren, (Tim) Ashley, Tyvan, Teagan, (Jodi) Marshall, Kristina, Eric, and Ian. (Mike) Taylor, Amanda (Steve and Rebecca) Jorian. Her husband Reg passed away in 1992; father Percy in 1955, mother Liz in 1959; sisters, Alice Shaw in 1965, Beth Stenton in 1975; brothers, Nelson in 1963, Arthur in 1944, and Bud in 1942; and daughter Margaret Piffer in 1999. Elsie enjoyed the mountains with long walks with friends and the dogs. For twenty-nine years Elsie and Reg enjoyed their winter trips to Hawaii. They made many lasting friendships while there. In recent years she enjoyed the bridge games, lunches, cooking classes, and fellowship offered at the Seniors Center. Banff is to be congratulated on the seniors services and in particular Ted the bus driver who put so much effort in to helping his "LADIES". On Monday 13 November at 1:30 p.m., the Reverend George Belcher will officiate at a Graveside Committal Service in the Old Banff Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Seniors Center from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. The sign on Reg's totem in front of their home said it all: "Aloha" BOW RIVER FUNERAL SERVICE assisting the family.
