Mrs. Smith was a native of Anderson, SC and a daughter of the late Fred and Bessie Prince Belton. She joined Hill St. Baptist Church at the age of 12 and served faithfully on the floral club and the public relations committee. She retired from Mission Hospital after 25 years of service. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by sons, Walter Lee and Henry James Smith; brother, Nathaniel Belton. Surviving family include daughters, Bessie Lewis (John) and Elaine Peterson of Asheville; son, Fred Smith of Evanston, IL; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. The Smith family would like to thank the staff of the Oaks at Sweeten Creek and CarePartners for the special care provided to Mrs. Smith. The funeral service will be 12 pm, Monday in the chapel of Ray & Allen Funeral Service with Rev. Nilous Avery II officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service.
