NORTHPORT | Eloise Green Smith, age 92, of Northport, died February 28, 2014, at Woodhaven Nursing Home. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North with Rev. Jerry Croft officiating. A private family burial will follow in Williamson Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon L. Smith; her parents, Joseph S. and Ethel Smith Green; brother, Raymond Green; and sister, Norma Green. Survivors include her daughter, Brenda S. Englebert (Larry) of Demopolis; son, Don W. Smith (Marge) of Marietta, Ga. and S. Ray Smith (Sherry) of Kalama, Wash.; sisters, Evelyn Pohmajevich (Frank), Joan G. Morton, and Kathryn Reynolds; brother, Joe Douglas Green (Mary Ann); grandchildren, Warren Smith, Perry Smith (Rena), Chris Bussjager (Amelia), Stevi Smith, Erica Harris, Cary Wilson (Trudy), Catherine Roberts (Andy), Christi Langford (Al), Carol Velez (Tony), and Misty Thrasher (Tommy Scott); 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Eloise was the oldest child of seven siblings and lived in Tuscaloosa County all her life. She graduated the Class of 1938 at Tuscaloosa County High School. She was married to Leon Smith, the love of her life for 56 wonderful years. She enjoyed cooking, hand crafts, sewing and was an excellent seamstress. Eloise attended Tuscaloosa Business College after her children left home. She worked as secretary and bookkeeper for Tuscaloosa County School System and The Tuscaloosa Board of Education.Eloise loved her Lord and was a member of Northport First United Methodist Church. She served on the Board of Stewards, taught Sunday school and participated in Methodist Women's Circle.She had many years of loving family, friends and community and was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Northport First United Methodist Church, 701 Main Ave., Northport, AL 35476.
