Elmer Francis "Van" Van Horn, 88, Sarasota, died Nov. 9, 2006. He was born April 8, 1918, in Warren County, Ind., and came to Sarasota in 1958 from Lafayette, Ind. He retired from the city of Sarasota and had been a district manager of Conoco Oil Co. in Lafayette. He was a member of Elks Club 1519 in Sarasota and a 50-year member of Mason Lodge 123 in Lafayette. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ella Jane; sons Robert of Bradenton and Ronald of Florissant, Mo.; sisters Josephine Shoaf and Dorothy Johnson of Sarasota, JoAnne McGlothlin of Avon Park, Marie Boyer, Anna and Ileta Davis of West Lafayette, Ind., Jane Storey of Buttonwillow, Calif., Betty K. Mars and Mary L. Gamble of Lafayette; brothers Joseph Jr. of Marion, Ill., and Richard G. of Otterbein, Ind.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. No visitation or services are planned.
