ANDERSON Ellen (Eklof) Anderson, age 91 of Trumbull, beloved wife of the late Lenny Anderson, died Thursday, August 6, 2009 at the Bridgeport Hospital. Ellen Eklof was born the daughter of a Baptist minister in the Midwest. She grew up in South Dakota, Nebraska, Chicago and New York City. Her family moved often as her father was assigned to different churches. When living in New York, she met Lenny Anderson at the bible camp at Elim Park in Shelton. They were married at the Baptist Temple in 1940 and made their home in Black Rock. Their daughters, Lois and Joyce were born while they lived there. The family was faithful in the service of the Baptist Temple. In 1950, Ellen and her family moved to Fairfield. Once the girls were older, Ellen worked for the Fairfield Board of Education, later she took a full time position as secretary to the Town Health Director, where she remained until her retirement. Ellen and Lenny were staunch supporters of their church, which had become the Trinity Baptist Congregation. They were active members and held office in the Scandinavian Club. Ellen was a regular volunteer in the Red Cross. Because of their backgrounds, both Ellen and Lennie shared their love of singing. They were both long time members of the church choir, and very active in the North Star Singers, Northern Lights Ladies' Singing Society, and the American Union of Swedish Singers. Lenny passed away in 1992. Ellen continued her busy life and was active until early this year. She was always proud of her heritage as a minister's daughter and as a Swede. Ellen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She received and gave the bond of friendship to many. Her journey through our lives will be fondly remembered. Survivors include two daughters, Lois A. Butka and her husband, David of Trumbull and Joyce Petrasko and her husband, Barry of Venice, Fla.; one sister, Betty Peterson of Minnesota; two grandsons, Jay Anderson Butka and his wife, Holly of St. Louis and Dr. Matthew D. Butka, MD and his wife, Melissa of Hanover, Mass.; four great-grand-children, Emily, Laura and John Butka of St. Louis and Daniel Butka of Hanover, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. She was prede-ceased by two brothers; a sister; and a nephew. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service, Monday August 17, 2009 at 12 Noon at the Trinity Baptist Church, Fairfield. Burial was private in Mt. Grove Cemetery, Fairfield. Donations maybe made to the Trinity Baptist Church. The Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue, Bridgeport is in care of arrangements.
