Elizabeth (Betty) W Johnson, age 65, passed away at her home in West Cape May in the care of her loving family on March 10, 2010 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Betty was born July 12, 1944 in Camden, NJ to Arthur and Sara Carrick. Her family moved to Bates Ave in the Villas where she graduated from Lower Cape May Regional in 1962. She went on to receive a teaching degree form Glassboro College (Rowan). Marrying her husband Richard in 1969, they settled and raised their two children Darla and Richard in Pennsville, NJ. Her life-long profession was as a teacher in Penns Grove/ Carney’s Point School District where she taught for over 40 years; most of those in third grade at Field Street School. As a member of the faculty, she was beloved by her students and fellow teachers alike. Betty and family always spent summers in their home in West Cape May, where she and Richard eventually retired to live permanently. She enjoyed reading a book on beautiful summer days on Windsor Beach, playing tennis with her friends at the Cape May Tennis Club, and playing golf with her husband. Betty was preceded in death by her father Arthur and her sisters Nancy and Sallie Lou. She is survived by her husband Richard and her children: Darla Stell of Pennsville and Richard Johnson of West Cape May. Betty also leaves her mother Sara Kuintzle of West Cape May, her brother David Carrick of Cape May, and her sister Patricia Baird-McHugh of Erma. Finally, missing their "Me-Mom" are grandsons Jacob and Joey Stell and Trent Johnson. A celebration of Betty’s life will take place at Alethea’s Restaurant at the Inn of Cape May, 7 Ocean Street, Cape May, NJ on March 20, 2010.
