Betty Stuart, dearly loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at home with her family around her on January 15, 2015. Predeceased by her beloved husband Jim in 2011, Betty is survived by her daughters: Helen (Eugene) Greschner, Frances (Brent) MacLean, and Diana (Rob Milner) Stuart. Betty is also survived by five grandchildren: Christopher (Jeannine) Greschner, Lauren Greschner, Jill Greschner, Conor (Samantha) MacLean, and Kyle (Lindsay) MacLean; as well as three great-grandchildren: Aida Greschner, Carson MacLean and Hayden MacLean. Betty is also survived by her sister Eve Breeden, her god-daughter Carolyn Nielsen and other relatives in Canada, the U. S. and Great Britain. Betty was born in Gidea Park, a suburb of London, England. She moved with her family to Montreal in 1929 and attended The Study, a private girls' school for her education. Betty worked as a laboratory technologist until her marriage to Jim Stuart in 1949. Betty was a devoted mother to her three girls and in 1967 she and Jim moved their family to Calgary having fallen in love with the west during trips to the Rockies. In 1972, Betty and Jim built their rural mountain-view home between Okotoks and Black Diamond and fully embraced the country life. Betty loved seeing birds and wildlife on her long walks on the property and was active all her life. She enjoyed swimming, badminton, tennis, skiing, hiking, and going to Curves. In later years Betty played golf with a passion until she became ill in the spring of 2014. Betty faced her illness with determination and courage and always said there was someone "worse off than me." The family would like to extend sincere thanks to everyone who provided excellent and compassionate care to Betty during her illness: Dr. F. Byam (Okotoks), Dr. Michelle Geddes (hemotologist), Tammy, Stephanie, Cheryl and other staff at the Tom Baker and High River Cancer Centres. Heartfelt thanks to our caregivers, Sandy Hall and Darlene Willis of Sandy's Care, Black Diamond for the outstanding and sensitive palliative care given to Betty and for the invaluable support given to the family. Betty cherished her family and friends and touched many lives in the community. She was known for her sparkling personality and fun-loving approach to life. Betty's legacy of kindness, compassion, cheerfulness, and generosity is an inspiration to all. She is deeply loved and is greatly missed. Arrangements entrusted to Snodgrass Funeral Homes, Okotoks. A private family gathering will take place at a later date.
