ALBANY Elizabeth (Betty) Koonz Smith, 80, beloved wife of the late James T. Smith Sr., passed away Thursday, June 5, 2003 at the Teresian House after a long illness. Born July 14, 1922 in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Casper and Mary Koonz and sister of the late Casper Koonz Jr. A graduate of the Academy of the Holy Names, Elizabeth was a longtime resident of North Albany before moving to Colonie in 1973. Elizabeth was a dietician at the Teresian House for 14 years before retiring in 1987. Elizabeth is the devoted mother of James Thomas Smith Jr. and his wife Carol Lombardo Smith of Menands, Sheila Ann Bouck and her husband Michael of Colonie and Barbara Huerter of Wynantskill. She is also survived by two sisters, Mary Egan of Ballston Lake and Rita Dennebaum of Colonie; a sister-in-law, Jane (Jack) Mosher of Albany; and her beloved grandchildren, Shannon Marie Bouck of East Greenbush, Michael James Bouck of Colonie, James Joseph Smith of Menands, Don Huerter and Lisa Burghardt; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Teresian House, Washington Avenue Extension, Albany. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. The family wishes to extend their warmest thanks to the staff at the Teresian House for the kindness, care and compassion exhibited over the last five years.
