Entered into rest on the morning of Nov. 6, 2002, Sarah Elizabeth Cox Smith, wife of Thomas Hugh Smith. Residence, James Island. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hugh Smith are invited to attend the funeral services of the latter, Friday, at 11 o'clock, at Fort Johnson Baptist Church. Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel, tonight, between 6 and 8 o'clock. Mrs. Smith was born Aug. 30, 1923, in Conway, the daughter of Sanford D. Cox and Belle Parker Cox. She graduated from Winthrop College and was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa. She became a school teacher and taught in Horry and Georgetown Counties, and retired from Charleston County School District. She was a member of Fort Johnson Baptist Church and was Church Librarian for 30 years. She is survived by her husband, of James Island; one son, Thomas H. Smith Jr., and his wife, Cindy, of Mount Pleasant; one daughter, Belle Smith Edmond, and her husband, John, of Liberty; one brother, James E. Cox, of Charlotte, N.C.; three grandsons, John O. Edmond Jr. of Liberty, Kevin Sanford Edmond of Liberty and Charles Parker Smith of Mount Pleasant. She was predeceased by two brothers, Sanford D. Cox Jr. and I. Benjamin Cox; and one sister, Hazel Cox Davis.
