Elizabeth Stewart, née en 1941, conjointe de Elizabeth Stewart, mère de Almon, William, Mary, Laleah et Elizabeth', est décédée le 9 décembre 2001 à l'âge de 60 ans.
In Ottawa on Sunday, December 9th, 2001, at age 60. Daughter of the late Hon. Roland A. Ritchie, C.C., and Mary Ritchie (nee Wilde). Dear niece of the late Charles S. A. Ritchie and Sylvia Ritchie. Elizabeth was born in Halifax and educated at the Halifax Ladies College, McGill University, Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, and completed her doctorate in Paris. Her life-long love of art led to a career as an Art History teacher at Ottawa University. She is survived by Nancy Carscallen and her sons Almon and William (his wife Elizabeth) and daughters Mary and Laleah and seven young cousins. Also survived by Jim and Cathy Smellie and their son and daughter; Elizabeth's companion Brian Huggins; and her friend and protege Mederic Borgeaud. She was also greatly loved and cherished by her exceptionally-wide circle of friends across North America and Europe. Through her post-graduate studies in France arose a unique community of friends in Paris, headed by Prof. Jean-Pierre Darmon. She will also be missed by her many friends in Chester, Nova Scotia. Elizabeth was a humanitarian who will be remembered for her loving and understanding nature, her loyalty and generosity of spirit. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa on Tuesday, December 11th, from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service at St. John the Evangalist Anglican Church, 154 Somerset Street (at Elgin), Ottawa, on Wednesday, December 12th, 2001, at 2 p.m. Interment Beechwood Cemetery.
