HOUSTON, Elizabeth "Betty" It is with regret that we announce the passing of our mum Elizabeth Houston "Betty" at home in Russell, February 17, 2004. Our mum was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on October 2, 1929. She was the eldest daughter of the late Jayne and Andrew Stewart. She is survived by her brother Robert (Dorothy) and sister Margaret (James) and five nieces and nephews in Northern Ireland. She married the late Rev. Adam Houston in Bombay, India in 1954 and emigrated to Canada in 1956. She lived in a number of different communities through out Quebec and the Maritimes. Our parents settled in Stayner, Ontario where they ministered to the congregations of Jubilee and Zion Presbyterian Churches for over 20 years. Her pride, joy and job for life was being a mother and grandmother. She had four children; Elizabeth (Michael Smith), Naomi (Claude Sirois), Mark (Brenda) and Paddy (Roger Labbe). She has 8 grandchildren who shared much kindness, patience and attention from their grandmother; Angela (Adam), Erin (Christopher), Sarah, Daniel, Adam, Cori, Emilie and Elliott and two great-granddaughters Samantha and Jessica. All those who knew and loved mum and grandma have felt her presence in a quiet, gentle way. And without being wildly recognized she deeply touched the lives of many people in significant ways. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Duncan Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 6971 Bank Street, (formerly Highway 31,between Scrivens Drive and Metcalfe Corner) from 2-4 p.m. Sunday. Funeral Monday to St. Andrew's and St. Paul's United Church, Russell, for Service at 1:30 p.m. Interment in Stayner Union Cemetery in Stayner, Ontario in the spring.
