FALMOUTH -- Elizabeth "Betty" Mary (O'Brien) McKenna, 87, a Falmouth resident who was active in the community, died yesterday, Aug. 5, after a long struggle with heart disease at JML Hospice.She was the wife of Hubert Montgomery McKenna, who died in 1993.She was born in Woburn, March 27, 1919, daughter of the late William and Mary O'Brien. She attended Woburn High School and went on to study at the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School, where she received her associate's degree.She married her husband, Hubert on Oct. 19, 1946. They settled in Woburn, where they operated the family pharmacy and raised four children. After Hubert retired, they moved to Falmouth Heights, where she continued to reside after her husband's death.Mrs. McKenna gave freely of her time to several volunteer organizations and charities. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of Woburn, co-chairman for the Falmouth Home for Little Wanderers and a volunteer at the Red Cross Blood Bank. She also belonged to the Women's Guild at St. Patrick's in Falmouth and volunteered at the Falmouth Service Center and the Round the Table Program at St. Barnabas.For 30 years, Mrs. McKenna was a director of the Falmouth Heights Association and an active member of the Falmouth Heights community.She is remembered as a generous friend and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.She is survived by her three sons and two daughters-in-law, David of Falmouth, William and Karen of Westford, and Richard and Jeanne of Falmouth; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary McKenna and David Sullivan of Winchester; her grandchildren, Michael, Rachael, Laurie, Kerri, Maureen, Melissa, and James; and a great-granddaughter, Katelyn.
