Elizabeth "Betsy" Lucas Lynch Jackson, 95, died peacefully on January 18, 2011, after a long illness. A native of Florence, S.C., she was the daughter of James Montgomery Lynch and Elizabeth Smith Lynch. She attended Winthrop College and the University of Georgia, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. She was a founding member and trustee of Isle of Hope Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 40 years. She served as WMU director, Sunday School director, PTA president at Isle of Hope Elementary and historian for the first Wimberley Garden Club of which she was a founding member. She and her husband were married for 60 years and traveled the world together, but thought no place was more beautiful than their home on Isle of Hope. She enjoyed playing bridge, walking along The Bluff, traveling abroad, her afternoon tea, being a Georgia Bulldog fan and spending time with her beloved family. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Hugh Hill Jackson Jr.; sister, Sarah "Sally" Lynch Mathy and her husband, Joseph Jules Mathy; son, Hugh Hill Jackson III; and great-grandchildren, Graham and Lillian Kaiser. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Joanna Jackson Petrie and Michael Richard Petrie of Dataw Island, S.C., Patricia Jackson Morris and Dr. Walter Eugene Morris Jr. of Savannah, Susan Jackson Kaiser and Daniel Lee Kaiser of Statesboro; daughter-in-law, Bobbie McCoy Jackson of Sylvania; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher Michael Petrie and Lee Petrie, Matthew Thomas Petrie and Lori Petrie, David Maurice Petrie, James Jeffrey Kaiser and Kristi Kaiser, Scott Montgomery Kaiser and Kim Kaiser, Joshua Jackson Kaiser and Kimberly Kaiser, Brian David Jackson and Michelle Jackson, Elizabeth Petrie Tomlin and Bruce Tomlin, Tracy Adkins Brown and Gary Brown, Sarah Adkins Thorpe and Brian Thorpe and Jackie Jackson Teel and Jon Teel; 19 great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Joanna, Anna, Samantha, Reid and Abigail Petrie, Michael, Sarah, Katherine and Megan Tomlin, Kasey, Jackson Daniel, Smith and Tanner Kaiser, Christian Brown, John and Madelynne Thorpe, Cooper Jackson and Madison DuBose; sister-in-law, Liliana Mathy; nieces, Garland Mathy Cantone and Martha Nell Jordan Rivers; great-niece, Julia Cantone Rucker; nephew, Joseph Mathy Jr.; great-nephews, Joseph and John Mathy; devoted care giver, Pattie Murphy; and other loving relatives. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, January 20, at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, January 21, at Isle of Hope Baptist Church with Pastors Waldo Woodcock and Danny Hughes officiating. Her seven grandsons will serve as pallbearers, with the deacons of Isle of Hope Baptist Church serving as honorary pallbearers. Burial will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery, Greenwich section.
