STATON Elizabeth Joyce Jackson-Staton, age 88 of Stratford, departed this life on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at her residence after a long illness. Mrs. Staton was born in Madison, Ga. on November 16, 1919 to the late Rev. William Jackson and Gertrude Cheney Jackson. She was the widow of Arthur Staton. Elizabeth was educated in the public schools of Madison Morgan County and was salutatorian of her graduating high school class. She was a retired tour superintendent of mails for the Bridgeport Post Office and the first representative from the Bridgeport Post Office to the District Women's Affirmative Action Group. She was a member of Mt. Aery Baptist Church and served with the Scholarship Club. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Betty Jo White of Greenwood, S.C.; a son, Tyrone Stone of Atlanta, Ga.; faithful nieces, Sandra Jackson-Cameron, Dorothy Thomas; devoted god-daughter, Sterlene Salter; seven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and a host of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by three sons, four sisters and six brothers. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at 11 a.m. in Mt. Aery Baptist Church, 73 Frank Street, Bridgeport. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery.
