Jones Jones, Elizabeth (Elma) of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Westport, CT passed away on March 22, 2010, after a short illness. She is survived by a brother, Alexander (Red) Hamilton, of Naples, FL; a son, Bruce Jones, of Decatur, GA,; and a daughter, Leslie Jones, and two granddaughters, Katie Cusumano and Kristen Cusumano, of Bermuda. She was predeceased by her husband, Sam Jones, in 1990. Elma was born in Yonkers, New York on January 1, 1925. After graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1942, she attended Katharine Gibbs School and went on to a career in advertising and marketing. She continued to pursue her career while raising her children, working from home at a time long before such arrangements were common. She maintained a home in Westport for over 50 years, as well as a home in Fort Lauderdale for over 20 years. Elma was a tennis player and fan, an avid gardener, and a bridge enthusiast who loved to travel. She was active for many years in the Westport Women?s Club and the Westport Senior Center. A dedicated philanthropist, she supported countless charities with causes ranging from protection of endangered species to medical research to educational institutions. Private memorial services will be held in Fort Lauderdale and in Westport. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be sent to St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital or the World Wildlife Fund. Friends and family are encouraged to visit Elma?s memorial website at legacy.com.
