Elizabeth "Betty" Cassoon Johnson passed on Saturday September 6, 2014. She was preceded in death by her Husband of 53 years, Donald K. Johnson; parents Nick and Frances Cassoon, four sisters Nita Burns, Elsie Littlefield, Frances Ali, Mary Rose Cassoon and four brothers Frank, Nick, Joseph, and John Cassoon. She is survived by a sister Violet (Vi) Gauthreaux of Athens, GA and a brother William (Bill) Cassoon of Bethel Park, PA and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Johnson was born in Coverdale (Bethel Park), PA on April 23, 1928 and graduated from Bethel High School in Bethel Park in 1946. In 1949 Betty Joined the US Air Force and was assigned to the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. In 1952 she was assigned to SHAPE Headquarters in Paris, France where she worked for General Dwight D. Eisenhower. In September 1951 Donald Johnson who was also in the Air Force and Betty were married. From 1951 throughout Donald's Air Force career, they traveled to various assignments around the World. In the early days of space exploration Betty and Don worked at Cape Canaveral, Fl. He was in weather forecasting and Betty as a civil service employee in support of the launches. In the late sixties they were in Europe and then they were at Rantoul Air Base in Rantoul, IL. In 1977 they moved to their home on Lake Dardanelle, Yell County, Arkansas. Betty was an avid gardener and member of the Town & Country Garden Club, Dardanelle, Arkansas. Betty attended the Dardanelle Missionary Baptist Church. As per her request, there will not be a memorial service.
