ObituaryELIZABETH JEAN "BETTY" HYATTFORMERLY OF DRYDEN Elizabeth Jean "Betty" Hyatt, 85, formerly of Dryden, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at Allendale Nursing Home, Allendale, NJ. Born April 5, 1918 in Harbor Springs, MI. She was a daughter of the late General Ernest and Lela Burt and beloved wife of the late Norman Hyatt who died in 1998.A graduate of Michigan State University, she was a member of Beta Beta of Alpha Phi. In 1941 she married Norman Hyatt. She received her Master of Social work in 1962 and worked at Sheehan High School, Wallingford, CT until she retired in 1982. Prior to living in Dryden she lived in New Haven, CT. She joined the Mormon Church in 1964 and was active in the Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) in Ithaca. Along with her husband she went on a Mormon Church mission to Nueva Rosita, Mexico. After the Hyatt's move to Dryden, they enrolled in classes at Ithaca College and were later honored as the oldest couple to attend the college.Mrs. Hyatt was the devoted mother and mother-in-law of Peggy Sue Kerlin, Holly and Jim Evans, Jim and Betty Hyatt; dearest sister and sister-in-law of Capt. Ernest and Alice Burt, Margery McKenny and Edward (deceased) and Ann Burt; loving grandmother to Carolyn and Tim Haney, Michael Hyatt, Debbie Hyatt, Laura Hyatt, Celeste and Les Chappell, Janelle Kerlin, John Kerlin, Kevin and Nicki Kerlin, David and Amber Kerlin, Andy Kerlin, Peter and Aeiko Hart, Julie and James Woodworth, Susie and Robert Templeton; cherished great grandmother of Matthew, Jeffrey, Christopher, James, Elizabeth, Larissa Chappell, Mary and Dustin Hart, Emma Templeton and Kindree Kerlin; beloved and loving aunt and a friend to many.Friends and relatives are invited to attend the funeral at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, June 7, 2003 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ithaca Ward. Burial will follow at King Cemetery. Viewing will be from 1 - 2:00 P.M. prior to the service at the church.Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements are by the Leon A. Oltz Funeral Home.
