-->Elizabeth Henry Gregory "Lib" CHARLOTTE, NC-- Mrs. Elizabeth Henry Gregory "Lib" of Charlotte died Monday, January 21, 2008 at Sardis Oaks. Elizabeth was born in Lilesvile, NC on August 9, 1923, the daughter of the late J. Smith Henry and Elizabeth French Henry. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Thomas Russell Gregory, a Major in the United States Air Force in World War II and a retiree of the Exxon Corporation. Her only son Thomas Russell Gregory, Jr. who graduated from Charlotte Country Day School and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, also preceded her in death. Mrs. Gregory was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and a 1944 graduate of Queens College where she was a member of the May Court, the Honor Society and active in numerous campus organizations. Lib retired from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools after thirty-four years of dedicated service. She taught second grade at Plaza Road and Shamrock Gardens Elementary Schools. She was a member of the Battle of Charlotte Chapter of the D.A.R. Lib had many passions in life, most notably her love of antiques, her fascination with genealogy, and her life long dedication to her animals. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 24, 2008 at the Christ Episcopal Church. The family will greet friends following the service at the church. Elizabeth was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was loved and held in highest esteem by her unique special family which includes Dr. Emory H. Mason, wife Mary and son Eddie of Charlotte, NC; dearest friends and caregivers, Mary Jo, Robert and Rebecca Tone, Rita and David Heatherly, all of Spartanburg, SC; her longtime friend, Peggy Crowley of Charlotte; her goddaughter, Louise Try Allen of Charleston, SC; very good friend and caregiver, Walter "Buck" Kennedy of Charlotte; and her beloved Papillon, Lira. Lib will be greatly missed by her many supportive friends and neighbors. In lieu of flowers please make memorials to the Precious Paws Rescue Inc., 6520 White Pine Lane, Charlotte, NC 28262 or to the Charlotte Chapter of the American Cancer Society, 6000 Fairview Road, Suite 200, Charlotte, NC 28210. Harry and Bryant Company has the honor of serving the Gregory family.
