WILLIAMS, Elizabeth "Bette" Elinor: (Jan 18, 1927 - Feb 14 2015). Bette passed away in the wee hours last Saturday following a lengthy illness. Bette was the youngest child born to Welsh immigrant parents, Stephen and Nellie (nee Owen) Thomas of Penticton, BC. The family arrived in Penticton in June, 1925. All their children, save Bette were born in the USA. Bette's passing represents the end of her family's generation. She is predeceased by her parents, sister Katherine (Malcolm d.1971, Ron) brothers Tom, Francis, Bill (Evelyn), Dave (Marg), Stan (Edie). Bette married RCMP Cst. Dave Williams in Penticton in Oct.1954 where he was stationed at the time. The couple adopted eldest son, David Morgan Williams at the age of 2 weeks in 1958. On April 1st, 1960, youngest son, William Scott Williams was born to the happy couple. Tragically, Scott died in June 1995 and Bette's husband, Dave, passed away in February of 1998. Bette was a gifted singer and a regular participant at the Okanagan Valley Musical Festival in the late 1930s. She studied music in New York in the early 1940s with her older cousin, recognized composer and Juilliard graduate, Frances Williams (d.1978) whose music is still being performed today. Bette enjoyed a long and loving marriage with David that saw them living at various times in BC towns: Penticton, Fernie, Victoria, and Burnaby; Fort Garry, Manitoba and finally Drumheller, Alberta. Bette suffered an aneurysm whilst visiting relatives in Penticton in 1994 which left her with short-term memory loss and increasing dementia over her final years.Upon her husband's death in 1998, Bette moved back to Victoria under the care of son, David until at-home-care was no longer feasible. In 2002, Bette moved to the James Bay Care Centre where she lived out her remaining days. Bette is survived by eldest son, David (Sue) and grandson John Elijah Williams as well as numerous nephews, nieces, grand nephews and nieces and generations to come. The Thomas family still has countless relatives south of the border. Our gratitude is extended to the staff at RJH's South 8, and especially to the staff at the James Bay Care Centre.
