CARTER, Elizabeth Mary (Betty) Our family is saddened by the loss of our dear mother, grandmother, and Gigi, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Carter (nee: Tolman) on December 21, 2010 at Sturgeon General Hospital, St. Albert, AB at the age of 91. After a valiant struggle with COPD, our Gigi died peacefully with her family by her side. Gigi will always be remembered as a loving woman of generous spirit whose presence and smile would light up a room. She enhanced the lives of those she touched and has left the world a better place. She will be deeply missed and always in our hearts. Gigi is survived by her children, Betty Welsby (Gord), Terry Carter (Connie), Cherry Carter Thoms (Dennis), son-in-law Eric Best, and sister-in-law (and heart) Mandy Carter. Gigi nurtured and loved nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren and her adopted family Bev, Mike and Tyler. "Aunt Betty" will also be sadly missed by a large, loving extended family of Carters and Tolmans. Gigi was predeceased by her loving husband Sam, daughter Helen Best and sister Ruth Mitchell. Our family owes a deep gratitude to her (much loved) Stacey and the staff and residents at Heritage Place Lodge in Morinville, AB who became a part of Gigi's extended family for the past 12 years. We would also like to express our thanks to Dr. Alan McDonald and the amazing and caring staff on unit 18 at Sturgeon General Hospital. Cremation at Gigi's request. Celebration of life service at a later date to be announced.
