Mrs. McLean was born November 13, 1920 in Cookeville, TN to the late Alfred Algood Carlen and Elizabeth Reams Cox Carlen. She was one of three daughters, her sisters being Margaret Alice Carlen Maddux and Catherine Cox Carlen Cox, both deceased. She married Robert Brank McLean on May 22, 1959 and they were together until his passing in 1990. She attended Tennessee Technology University from 1938 - 1940, and completed her education at Vanderbilt University in 1942. In her first job, Mrs. McLean worked for then Representative Albert Gore, Sr. in Washington, DC. She was an interior designer in Chattanooga, having trained at the Ecole des Beaux Arts at Fontainebleau, France, a homemaker, and faithful member of First United Methodist Church where she was presently serving as Circle President. Mrs. McLean is survived by nephews and nieces of the Carlen and McLean families. Memorials may be made to: Habitat for Humanity, Argie Cooper Library, First United Methodist Church, or Tennessee Technology University for the Algood and Elizabeth Carlen Scholarship.
