Elizabeth “Bett” Burden Short, age 61, of Homewood, died Friday, July 9, 2004. Born August 6, 1942, she was the youngest child of Arthur D. and Katie M. Burden. She was a member of the 1960 graduating class of Decatur High School. Mrs. Short relocated to Birmingham during the early 1970s, where she remained until her death. She was a longtime member of South Highland Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her two children, Wayne Short (Nona) of Prattville, Ala., and Shannon Short of Madison; two sisters, Jean B. Davis of Homewood, Ala., and Wilda B. Nichols of Decatur. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Katie and Susan Short; two nieces; three great-nieces; one great-nephew and two great-great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her brother, Rayburn Lamar Burden.Private graveside services were held on Monday, July 12, 2004, in Decatur. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Cahaba Council of Girl Scouts in Birmingham.
