WHITE, Eleanor (Omi) A loving and gentle soul is at peace... "Somewhere over the Rainbow". With her girls, family and wonderful care-givers at her side, dear Ellie gracefully slipped away on May 11, 2010 in Edmonton, Alberta. Ellie's ability to make and nurture relationships was instrumental in guiding her throughout her adventurous and rewarding life. She deeply loved and valued her family, friends, travel, fine cuisine, travel, teaching, riding, art, music and theatre. Ellies kind and thoughtful spirit continues to inspire all of us who had the good fortune to know her. She loved well and was well-loved. Ellie was born in Ottawa, Ontario on January 11, 1931 to Dr. George Pennock and wife, Kathleen (nee McGiffin). She attended Glebe Collegiate, Queens University and earned her Bachelor of Education in Ottawa. Ellie relished family times as a youngster at the cottage in Riverside, and later on in Ottawa, Germany, France, England, Perth, Kitchener, Mississauga, and Edmonton. While living abroad as a military wife, Ellie eagerly explored and introduced new cultures, sports, cuisine and languages to her three daughters. She enjoyed work in sales, catering and loved being an elementary teacher. Ellie belonged to Woodroffe United Church in Ottawa and St. Andrew's United Church in Edmonton. Ellie's last decade was spent truly living in the moment with Alzheimers. Her family is forever grateful to the exceptionally caring and dedicated 7AB staff at the Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre who, when she needed it the most, helped us give Ellie the same kind, compassionate and respectful treatment she had given others throughout her life. Loving thanks too to Dr. Walter & Mrs. Yvonna Romanow, Marianne Johnson and Miroslawa Sherwood who helped us watch over Ellie. Ellie is lovingly remembered and missed by daughters Sandy (Romanow), Karen (Carter) and Janet (Lewis); sons-in-law Martin, Randy and Doug; grandchildren Evan and Brett Romanow, Colin and Katie Carter, Ben and Max Lewis; her extended family and many friends around the world. A celebration of Ellie's wonderful life will be held in Ottawa, Ontario at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry (150 Woodroffe at Richmond Rd.) on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 1 p.m. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider extending your smile, friendship or another form of support to someone who lives in the moment.
