Cox, Eleanor M.June 29, 1940 - Sep. 8, 2013Eleanor Cox, 73, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Portsmouth, RI, died peacefully on September 8th at her home after a long battle with cancer. Surviving her is her husband Edward J. Cox, a sister Margaret Diebold, two sons Mark Schumann and Peter Schumann, and 5 grandchildren.Eleanor was born in New York City, graduated from Hunter College and held Masters Degrees in Education and Social Work. She worked as a social worker in Darien and Norwalk, CT and as a family therapist in Newport, RI. She also served as a social worker with Tidewell Hospice in Sarasota before becoming ill.Eleanor was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, 7750 South Beneva Road, Sarasota and was very active in the choir.A celebration of her life will take place at 10:00 AM on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at the church.
