<!-- FH = Greenlawn Funeral Home-East --><!-- DisplayFullObituaryText -->Ray EdwardsElbert Ray Edwards of Cedar Creek Mo., son of Scott and Bessie Edwards was born on August 23, 1930 in Wright County, Missouri and passed away on May 3, 2014 at the age of 83 in his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Dorothy Wampler and Wanda Walters and grandson Adam Ray Grann. He is survived by his children Charles Edwards and his wife, Wendy of Rogersville, Mo. Twana Carlson and husband Dale of Minneapolis, MN, Gale Edwards and his wife Becky of Springfield, Mo., his sister, Pauline Skinner of Hartville, and brother-in-law Milt Walters of Belleville, IL, grandsons, Jeff Grann and his wife Tanya, Derek Edwards and his wife Jessica, and Nathan Grann, three great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives. Ray retired as the Eleventh District Vice President of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers after 43 years of service on August 1, 1998. He was initiated into IBEW on September 14, 1954, as Journeyman Lineman. He served Local 453 as a Steward, Vice President and Assistant Business Manager. On August 1, 1968, Ray was appointed as the International Representative and assigned to the Eleventh District staff. Ray was a lifelong community activist and trade unionist. Ray pursued the enjoyment of raising cattle, hunting, and fishing at his Cedar Creek farm. He enjoyed the warmth and comfort of his Okeechobee, Fla. residence while avoiding the Missouri winters and feasting on the local crappie fishing. His Florida home was always open for visits from friends and family. He shared his love of the St. Louis Cardinals with his children and grandsons. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of his many friends who have enriched Ray's retirement years with their friendship and assistance during his recent period of ill health. Visitation will be at Greenlawn Funeral Home-East on Wednesday May 7, 2014 from 6pm - 8pm. Funeral services will be at Greenlawn Funeral Home-East on Thursday May 8, 2014 at 1:00 pm with a family gravesite service at Steele Memorial Cemetery in Hartville, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Ray Edwards/IBEW 11th District Scholarship to the Missouri State University Foundation, 300 South Jefferson, Springfield, MO 65806 or online, Foundation@missouristate.edu.
