Edythe Margaret O'Keefe, 91 SOUTH PORTLAND -- Edythe Margaret O'Keefe, 91, formerly of 10 Soule St., died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at Mercy Hospital. She was born on Sept. 19, 1917, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of George and Margaret (Kelly) Taton. She attended Holy Rosary Grammar School and Girls Commercial High School in Brooklyn, N.Y. In January of 1943, Edythe married Charles O'Keefe. He predeceased her in 1994. As a young woman, she worked at F.W. Woolworth Co. in Brooklyn, N.Y., and later with ATT in New York. Edythe lived for many years in Babylon, Long Island. In 1969, she moved to Orange, Calif., and worked as a telephone operator at St. Joseph's Hospital. She moved to Maine in 1976 and worked as a switch board operator at Mercy Hospital. As a communicant of Holy Cross Church, she was a member of the Visitation Sodality. Edythe worked as a volunteer at Mercy Hospital and at R.S.V.P. She was active with Cape Elizabeth Community Services and a member of the United Senior Citizens of Cape Elizabeth and South Portland. Edythe loved shopping, movies, and going on trips. She enjoyed dancing to the 'Big Bands.' Edythe was also predeceased by a sister, Agnes Crowley and brothers, Matthew and Walter Taton. Survivors include her daughter, Christine; a son, Charles; grandchildren, Jean Ann and John Patrick; a nephew, many nieces, and their spouses, children, and grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Conroy-Tully South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at 10:15 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, at the Chapel followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, corner of Broadway and Cottage Road, South Portland.
