Edwin was born in Atlanta, GA. Graduated from Ga. State University '75, BA in Spanish and Georgia Southern University '02 MEd in Spanish and Secondary Education. He most recently retired from over 20 years of teaching in the GA secondary school system as well as at Georgia Southern University. His last teaching position was with Montgomery County High. His life educational experience included studies at Auburn University as a scholarship cross country runner where he won the annual freshmen's Cake Race in 1967 and the University of Madrid, Spain where he trained (ran) with bull fighters. He also was a Peace Corps volunteer in Quito, Ecuador and a VISTA volunteer in Brownsville, TX. His resume stated "the foundation of my teaching philosophy is based on my love of the Spanish language and culture". Edwin was preceded in death by his brother Crawford Verdery Collins and is survived by his parents, Marion (Verdery) and E. Turner Collins of Saint Simons Island, GA, his brother Charles M. & Candice (Walz) Collins of Lake Oswego, OR and his sister Verdery (Collins) & Gary Newell of Smyrna, GA. He also has nephews: Cameron and Turner IV and nieces Jillian and Emily along with two great nephews Liam and Caleb surviving him. A memorial service and inurnment will be held on March 5, 2011 at 11 a.m. in Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, 805 Mt. Vernon Highway Atlanta, GA 30327. There will be a reception and viewing of his paintings afterward. Contributions in memory of Edwin's name may be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, PO Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.
