SMITH, EDWIN J. 93Edwin Jordan Smith, 93, of Gainesville passed away March 26, 2009 at Orange Park Medical Center. Mr. Smith was born in Vidalia, GA and moved to Winter Garden, Fl in 1923. He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1933 and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Florida in 1943. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII. In 1945 he married Jean F. Culver in New Haven, CT. before moving to Gainesville the following year. He owned and operated Smith's Men's Shop until his retirement at age 70. Following retirement he volunteered at Wesley United Methodist Church. He is survived by a daughter Mary Smith (Louis) Leoncilli of Orange Park, son Mickey Smith of Crystal River, grandson Sean Leoncilli of Orange Park, and a brother Bruce Smith of Gainesville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the care of Forest Meadows Funeral Home.
