Physical Plant Engineer MARTINEZ, Ga. - Entered into rest Saturday, February 3, 2007, at University Hospital, Mr. Edward Lawrence "Pops" Jackson, 85, husband of the late Joan C. Jackson. Mr. Jackson was a native of Miami, FL, was raised in Grand Cayman, BWI and has lived in Martinez for the past 6 years. He was a member of the US Merchant Marine Service. Mr. Jackson retired from the US Army as a Staff Sergeant, serving during WWII, participating in the Normandy Invasion Campaign, coming ashore at Utah Beach in 1944. He served in a Field Artillery Regiment-Survey Section as part of the Eighth Infantry Division. He was a Physical Plant Engineer at Fish Hospital and West Volusia Memorial Hospitals in DeLand, FL and a member of Christ Community Church in Deland, FL. Mr. Jackson was a member of the Saint Johns Masonic Lodge No. 27 in DeLand, FL. Family members include his son and daughter-in-law: Glen L. and Claire Jackson and grandson: Christopher Glen Jackson, all of Augusta, GA; daughter: Janet Jackson of Augusta, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law: John and Joan Cowper of London, England and Barry and Barbara Cowper of Chelmsford, England; niece and nephews: Sandra Wellshear of DeLand, FL, Jimmy Thompson and Leon Thompson, both of Altamonte Springs, FL and extended family: Jeannine and Walter Wilson, Jonathan, Matthew, Stephen, Benjamin and Michael Wilson and Doris Arline, all of Augusta. Funeral services in DeLand, FL will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to DeLand Christ Community Church, 402 W. New York Ave., Deland, FL 32720.
