COLLINS, Edward Lewis, 86, of Riverview, Fla., passed away July 16, 2007, under the care of LifePath Hospice. He fought his final battle and never quit, all the way to the end. Mr. Collins was born September 9, 1920, in Waits, N.Y., to the late Jack and Margaret (Fraser) Collins. A retired major in the U.S. Air Force, he proudly served for 30 years. He retired in 1969 and moved to Florida from West Hampton Beach, Long Island, N.Y. Mr. Collins was a 1970 graduate of the University of Tampa, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Riverview and Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Collins was twice blessed in marriage. He was preceded in death in 1971 by his first wife and mother of his children, Ruth (Swingle) Collins. He was also predeceased by his brother, Robert Collins. In 1973, he married Gwendolyn (Wilkinson) Collins; she survives. He is also survived by his six children, Edward Collins Jr., Thomas Collins, Margaret Winchester, Judy Huff, Vicki McKnight and Dr. Lori Collins; five step-children, James Jennings, Dale Hawke, Pamela Jennier, Leslie McConnell and Dolores Hawke; and 20 grandchildren. A visitation will take place 6-8 p.m. today, July 19, 2007, at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home. A burial with full military honors will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2007, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.
