Edna Mae McGriff Brown Edna Mae McGriff Brown was called to join her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at Big Bend Hospice House. The service will be at 11 a.m. EDT Saturday at Old West Florida Enrichment Center, 2344 Lake Bradford Road. Strong & Jones Funeral Home, 551 W. Carolina St., is handling arrangements.Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Saturday at the center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Sister Brown's honor to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308. Sister Brown was the daughter of the late John Willie McGriff and the late Lannie Dickey McGriff, born May 31, 1923, in Tallahassee.She had one sister and three brothers who preceded her in death. Sister Brown was educated in Leon County schools and graduated with her high-school diploma from Leon County's GED program. Sister Brown was a lover of reading, especially the Holy Bible, and was a faithful witness of the word of God. In addition, Sister Brown loved to write, short stories in particular, which brought much joy to those whom she entrusted to share her writings with.Sister Brown accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of Saint Peter Primitive Baptist Church, Tallahassee, for 61 years, where she served as adult Sunday school teacher and was in charge of the church's Easter and Christmas programs for over two decades. Sister Brown also served as a member of the Clementine Daniels Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star from 1951 to 1993, which included serving as Worthy Matron.Sister Brown was also a member of Joshua Lodge No. 24. From her union to Brother Irven Brown (deceased), twelve children were born. One son and one daughter preceded her in death. Sister Brown leaves to cherish her memory eight daughters, Carolyn Anita Brown McGriff, Barbara Lynn Brown Henry (and Timothy), Pastor Irene Marria Brown Wimbush and Annie Lee Brown Ardley, all of Tallahassee, Acquanetta Brown Young (and Ronnie) of Binghamton, N.Y., the Rev. Dr. Geraldine Brown Whittaker (and Raymond) and the Rev. Dr. Gladys Brown Turner, both of Miami, and Mamie Brown Jackson of Tacoma, Wash.; two sons, Gregory Brown and retired FHP Major Gilbert T. "G.T." Brown, both of Tallahassee; one godchild, Gerrod McGee of Tallahassee; one special son, Timothy G. Henry of Tallahassee; 28 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Bert Hadley Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.Other survivors include 15 special children, Martha Randolph, Gladys Caswell, Margie Young, Albert and Sally Burk, Vera Mack, Dr. Soronnadi Nnaji, Pearl Henry, Leroy Hunter, Darryl Shingles, Flossie Denmark, Bernice McQueen, Carol Redwine, R.N., Cynthia Stokes Williams and Coach William "Billy" Joe. Cherished and dedicated friends include Deacon Earl Banks Jr., Mother Florence Brown, Dr. and Mrs. Martin Roeder and Mrs. Susan Camp.Special thanks and acknowledgements go to Dr. Frank Santoli, M.D., the Big Bend Hospice staff, Dr. Marvin Wallace, M.D. and Dr. Esiais Lee, M.D.
