CUBA Edna Mae Copenhaver Walker, age 90, of Cuba, died Jan. 7, 2008, at Fisher House in Meridian, Miss. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Cuba Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow in Clay Memorial Cemetery with Bumpers Funeral Home of York directing.A native of California, Penn., she was born August 22, 1917, to Eldridge Mansfield Copenhaver and Heneretta Pearl Keisling Copenhaver. Her father was a town Burgess. Mrs. Walker's early education was at California High School where she began her love of music and piano. She attended The University of Pittsburg and received a nursing degree. She worked at West Penn. Hospital after receiving her RN degree, and in 1945, felt the call to serve her country with her two beloved brothers. She joined the Army Medical Corp and was stationed in Muskogee, Okla., where she met her husband. They were married Sept. 25, 1945, and returned to Cuba, Ala. after the war.She was a faithful member of Cuba Baptist Church where she served her Lord for over 50 years.Her husband of 44 years, Dr. Douglas Edward Walker, preceded her in death.She is survived by her four children, John W. Walker (Kathy) of Cuba, Thomas Edward Walker (Alison) of Tampa, Fla., Alice Smith (Dr. Sidney Smith) of Cuba, and Linda Grant (Dr. Fred Grant) of Meridian, Miss.; ten grandchildren, Dr. J. Sid Smith (Leslie) of Tuscaloosa, Ashley Smith Roe (Dr. William Roe) of Tuscaloosa, Kimberly Walker Perkins of Meridian, Miss., Scott A. Walker (Monica) of Pigeon Forge, Tenn., Shannon Parten (Michael) of Cuba, Amber Lott of Anniston, Kathryn Walker Lyles (Dr. Trey Lyles) of Memphis, Tenn., Angela Evelyn Walker of New York, N.Y., Emily Grant Gresham (Miles) of Birmingham, and Douglas Grant of Pensacola, Fla.; and eleven great grandchildren.Pallbearers will be Mrs. Walker's grandsons.Honorary pallbearers are the nurses and staff of Fisher House and Kathy and Dewayne Fisher.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cuba Baptist Church, Cuba, Ala.
