SHORE, Edna Katherine (nee Young) In loving memory of Edna Katherine (nee Young) Shore, 87 years, who passed away peacefully at Extendicare York on Friday, May 6th, 2005. Edna was born on February 15th, 1918 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. The dear daughter of Sarah (Boothe) Young and Wallace Smith Young (both predeceased). She graduated from Normal School in Winnipeg in 1938 and taught the next three years at Emmiline, a one-room country schoolhouse. She then taught at Central School in Portage, where she was well regarded as a teacher. Edna married her beloved husband, Leonard W. Shore (predeceased 1996) on March 2nd, 1943. They had met when Leonard was stationed at McDonald's Air Force Training Base north of Portage during World War II. Edna continued to teach while Leonard served overseas until the end of the war. In 1945 the couple moved to Sudbury to begin their family life together. Edna enjoyed playing the piano, tennis, reading, baking and homemaking. She was a devoted wife and mother. Edna will be sadly missed by her daughter Linda Kathleen Shore of Elliot Lake, and by her brother Kenneth Boothe Young of Hamilton, Ontario. Funeral Service in the LOUGHEED FUNERAL HOME, 252 Regent St. at Hazel St., Tuesday, May 10th, 2005 at 8 p.m. Interment in the Civic Cemetery, Sudbury. In lieu of flowers donations to Extendicare York Resident's Council or Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
