Edith V. Pangaro, 90, a resident of Center Harbor, NH and a former winter resident of Englewood, FL., died on October 12, 2014 at home with members of her family by her side. She had been in failing health for the past two years. Edith was born in White Plains, NY to the late Frederick W. D. and Elisabeth (Layton) Goddard. She is survived by her husband Lawrence P. Pangaro of Center Harbor, with whom she shared 65 loving and happy years. Their life together was blessed with a deep love and enduring friendship. Mrs. Pangaro was educated at schools in Jenkintown, Pa. and Plainfield, N.J., where she received her high school diploma from Hartridge School for Girls. She went on to study at Wheelock College in Boston, Mass, being awarded a degree in Elementary Education. She began her career in the Greenwich, Conn. school system, teaching First Grade at the Cos Cob Elementary School. She left teaching to become a housewife and mother. Years later, when her children were grown and the family was now relocated in Massachusetts, she resumed teaching in the Old Rochester School System. She spent 17 years teaching Second Grade at Rochester Memorial School where she was commended as a very dedicated teacher who placed much importance on the needs of the individual student. During the years she was not teaching, Mrs. Pangaro was of great importance to her husband who, along with her help, founded the Sippican Sentinel, an award-winning weekly newspaper in Marion, Mass. In the early days, she served in many capacities to help this new venture become a success. Mrs. Pangaro was an avid tennis player and won a number of tournaments at the clubs to which she belong and at the Senior Olympics in Tucson Ariz. She and her husband, Lawrence, while wintering in Arizona, spent 15 years as instructors in the Tucson Community Tennis Program. TCTP was comprised of a large group of professionals and volunteers who taught beginning tennis at the Elementary School of Tucson to Fourth and Fifth Grade children who, otherwise, might not have the opportunity to learn the sport. She was a long-standing member of the Winnipesaukee Chapter, Nation Society of the Daughters of the American Revelation. Back in the 1980s, Mrs. Pangaro served three years as Vice-Regent of the Chapter. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Pangaro is survived by: two sons, David L. of Sausalito, Calif. and Dana C. (Judy) of Post Falls, Idaho; two daughters, Deidre E. (Brooks) Smith of Mattapoisett, Mass. and Diane V. (Dr. Paul) Lundquist of Vail, Ariz.; seven grandsons and one great grandson. Memorial Services and burial to take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Route Six, Marion, Mass. at a time convenient to members of the family.
