Finn, Edith Elizabeth Ellis, of Ronceverte, West Virginia, passed away after a short illness on Monday, December 1, 2008 in Greensboro. She was 97 years-old. Mrs. Finn was born to Mr. and Mrs. George Ellis on August 1, 1911, in Clifton Forge, Virginia, the fifth of six children. After graduating from Ronceverte High School in 1929, Mrs. Finn attended Saint Agnes Teaching Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, where she was trained as a registered nurse. After completing her training, she lived and nursed in the Baltimore area until 1942. While nursing at Saint Agnes, she met her future husband, Walters Bernard Finn of Baltimore. After Mr. Finn was released from the hospital, he pursued a courtship with Miss Ellis. The couple married at the beginning at World War II. She worked as a registered nurse during World War II in Olympia, Washington; Carmel, California, and New Orleans, Louisiana. Following the war, the Finns lived in Charlottesville, Virginia; Savannah, Georgia; Jacksonville, Florida; eventually settling in Hollywood, Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Finn were married 29 years. Mrs. Finn was creatively talented. She could turn a piece of fabric into a designer dress or elegant drapes. From porcelain she formed, painted, and fired decorative figurines, a number of which were sold. Later, she worked outside the home as a children's activity counselor for young guests at the Thunderbird Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings: Mr. Guy Ellis, Miss Virginia Ellis, Mr. Edward Ellis, Miss Mary Ellis, and Miss Mildred Ellis; sister-in-law, Helen (Mrs. Guy) Ellis, all of Ronceverte; and her husband, Walters Bernard Finn. She is survived by her son Michael, granddaughter Kelly Kathryn, and daughter-in-law Christie Mann Finn, who now reside in Greensboro; and cousin Diane Shields of Waycross, Georgia. Throughout her life, Mrs. Finn made many wonderful friendships. She had a warm smile and could tell a good story. She was a loyal, loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by the many whose lives she touched. Visitation will be 7:00 PM Tuesday, December 9. The Rosary will take place at 8:00 PM at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg, West Virginia. The funeral mass will be held at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Ronceverte at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 10 with Father Thomas Dagle officiating. After the mass, burial will occur at Riverview Cemetery in Ronceverte.
