ABBEVILLE - Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville for Eddie Joseph Chauvin Jr., 75, who passed away Monday, March 7, 2005, at Maison de Lafayette Nursing Home.Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Richard Meche of the Christian Life Center.Interment will be held at Fountain Memorial in Lafayette, La.Mr. Chauvin was a native of Lafayette, La. and a resident of Maurice, La. for the past 18 years. He was employed by Southern Pacific Railroad for 37 years. E.J. was a conductor and brakeman on a freight train.An avid fisherman, trapper and hunter, Eddie embodied the true free spirit of his French ancestry and continued to trap and trade furs up into his 75th year. A devoutly religious man, Mr. Chauvin was recently baptized, healed and born again. A special thanks goes out to Joe Anne of Maison de Lafayette, Laurie of Hospice, and the Rev. Richard Meche who tended to Eddie's physical, medical and spiritual needs over the past 14 months. E.J. will be greatly missed by family and friends.Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Chauvin and his wife, Ginger, of Lafayette, Jimmie Chauvin and his wife, Charlie, of Shreveport, Joey Chauvin, of Keithville, and Terry Chauvin, of Bossier City; two daughters, Susan Orgeron, of Lafayette, and Donna Hebert, of Bossier City; two brothers, Virgis Chauvin, of Lake Charles, and Karl Chauvin, of New Iberia; one sister, Laura Belle Guidry, of Erath; one half-brother, Junius Chauvin, of New Orleans; ten grandchildren, Joseph and Kenneth Paul Chauvin, Chris and Cyrus Orgeron, Steven, Jennifer and Rachael Hebert, Brandi Chauvin, Lauren and Logan Chauvin; and numerous nieces and nephews.Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie Joseph Chauvin Sr. and Eve Scott Chauvin, of Erath.Pallbearers will be Steven Hebert, Cyrus and Chris Orgeron, Jason, Kenneth Paul and Joseph Chauvin.Visitation was observed from 10:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. today.Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville, (337) 893-4661, is in charge of arrangements.
