LEE, ELIZABETH ROGERS - known to all as "Cissie", died peacefully on Friday, July 4, 2014. She was three days shy of her 94th birthday. Cissie was born in 1920 in Morristown, Tennessee, to Claude and Mary Goodson Rogers. Her father and grandfather, R. M. Rogers, operated a men's clothing store for many years on Main St. Cissie's maternal grandfather, James Franklin Goodson, was the founder of the JFG Coffee Company. Cissie was a fun-loving, good hearted "people" person. Her gregarious nature and sense of humor served her well, as she had many friends of all ages. She had an adventuresome spirit and traveled all over the world. Cissie was a strong courageous woman who endured the loss of two sons, but managed to stay strong in her faith and find joy and beauty in life. She was a active member of St. John's Cathedral, where she served on the Altar Guild for many years. Cissie was a member of the Knoxville Garden Club, the Junior League of Knoxville, and the National Society of Colonial Dames of America. It was fitting that this patriotic Dame died on July 4th, a holiday she especially loved. Cissie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, McAfee Lee, Sr.; her two sons, McAfee Lee, Jr., and Baxter Lee, lll; as well as her sister and brother-in-law, Martha Anne and Kent Withers. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Lee Sprouse; daughter-in-law, Sherri Parker Lee; and six grandsons and their families, Parker Lee, Fletcher (Courtney) Lee, Baxter Lee lV (Kate), Brian Sprouse, David (Renee) Sprouse, Stuart (Meg) Sprouse. She is survived by eleven great grandchildren; as well as two nephews, Bob (Peggy) Withers, and Kent Withers, Jr. The family would like to thank Cissie's faithful caregivers, who were a great comfort to her. The burial will take place on Tuesday, July 8, at 3:00 p.m. at Highland Memorial Cemetery with The Very Reverend John C. Ross and The Reverend Canon Thom J. Rasnick officiating. The memorial service will follow at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral at 4:30. A reception will follow in the Great Hall after the service.
