Avis de décès de Elizabeth Miller

Elizabeth (Betsy) Miller a longtime resident of Rockland County died peacefully on Monday May 19, 2008. She and husband Henry (Jim) Miller lived in New City for 50 years. Betsy was born on January 22, 1926 in Cambridge, MA to W. Floyd and Myrtle Maxwell. She was the youngest of three children. They moved to Teaneck, NJ when Betsy was small, and graduated from Teaneck H.S. in 1944. During Betsy's senior year of High School she was introduced to her future husband be her father, as he invited this fine young gentleman home to dinner one night that worked as an "Office Boy" in her Dad's lithograph business in New York City. That gentleman was Henry James Miller. They fell in love and while Jim was away in the service during WWII they became engaged. Betsy "modeled" in New York City after High School and saved every pay check Jim sent her for their life together after the war. While on leave on July 14, 1945 they were married at her home in Teaneck. 1948-1957 they lived in Dumont, NJ. In 1957 they found their peace of Heaven in New City, six acres of peace and quiet in the woods. They called their home "Hidden Haven". Over the years they not only raised their two children but a large herd of goats as well. School children for years later would come on a class trip to the Miller's Farm to milk goats, collect chicken eggs and swing way out across their pond. Betsy and her husband Jim were both involved in Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts and 4 H for many years. Betsy and Jim were longtime members of St. Johns Episcopal Church in New City. Betsy was always a kind, loving friend to all. Her smile was contagious "Doing for Others" her motto for life. She was one terrific Mom, and "Grammie" to her grandchildren. Words cannot express how much she will be missed to family, and life time friends. Betsy is survived by her daughter Sandy and husband John Graham of Trout Creek Mt, a son Steve Miller and wife Pam of Congers, NY, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren in Sandpoint, Idaho. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Henry (Jim) with 61 years of marriage, her parents, brother Bill Maxwell and sister Lynn Godwin. Family will receive friends on Wednesday May 21, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9PM at Higgins Funeral Home, New City, NY. A small graveside service to be held on Thursday 11AM at the Fred Loescher Veteran's Cemetery New Hempstead, NY. Condolences may be sent via the website: www.mem.com MICHAEL J.
