ROME, ELIZABETH "BETTY" GODWIN - age 83, of Knoxville, formerly of Rutledge, Tennessee, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 10, 2014, with her family by her side. She was a member of Saint John Neumann Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Roy Hill Godwin and Gladys French Godwin; sister-in-law, Peggy Yates Godwin. Betty is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Gordon Nash Rome; daughters and sons-in-law, Regina Ann and Danny Morgan, and Susan Michelle and Rick Davis; grandchildren, Ashley, Aaron, and Tanner Morgan, and Tucker Davis; brothers and sister-in-law, Don T. and Betty Godwin and J. Frank Godwin; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Bill Mims; and several nieces and nephews. Also survived by her loving and loyal service dog, LiL' Roy. A very special thank you to Betty's caregivers, Beverly Johnson, Joanne Smith, Kimberly, Kim, and April of Avalon Hospice. A funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, at Saint John Neumann Catholic Church with Reverend Monsignor G. Patrick Garrity, VE officiating. Interment to follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery, with reception at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Shea Room, 711 Northshore Dr. The family request memorial donations be made in Betty's name to St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 645 St. John Court, Knoxville, TN 37934, Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund, 711 S. Northshore Drive, Knoxville, TN 37919, or to Rutledge United Methodist Church, 7961 Rutledge Pike, Rutledge, TN 37861. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, with a Rosary service led by Deacon Don Amelse to follow, at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
