Elizabeth "Betty" F. Johnson, 89, of DeLand, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the Hospice Care Center in Orange City. Born in Morgantown, West Virginia she moved from there in 1925 to Orange City. Betty was a retired nurse, having worked as the Director of Nurses for Fish Hospital from 1957-1967, Orange Memorial Hospital in Orlando, DeLand Memorial Hospital on Stone Street, and finally retiring in 1982 from Sarasota Memorial Hospital as Hospital Supervisor. She was a member of the Florida State Nurses Association 18th District, which she helped reorganize, member of the DeLand Bridge Club, the Junior Women's Club and the Tennis Club, Golf and Bowling in Sarasota. She also bowled on the Jacobs Sheet Metal League at the Sunshine Lanes in DeLand and served on the State Constitution By-Laws Committee after World War II. Betty is survived by her daughter, Betty Jo (Frank) Rossetti of DeLand; sister, Mary B. Hucks of DeLand; brothers, Vernon (Mable) Flumm of Cocoa Beach and George (Helen) Flumm of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; grandchildren, Dennis (Alice), Brett and Brandi; beloved niece who helped provide for her care, Sherron (Marvin) Cooke of DeLand; nephew, Danny (Lynda) Hucks of DeLand; and many other nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Faye Schmidt and her children, Cecilia Paige, Jimmy Johnson and Johnny Johnson; and her beloved friend and confidant who she loved dearly, Joyce Bruschayt, who also provided for her care. She will be dearly missed by her beloved dogs, Bailey and Apollo. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Lankford Funeral Home in DeLand with Rev. Johnny Long officiating. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Building Fund for the West Volusia Care Center, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.
