Edward John Charles Kenn, died May 18, 2004 at the Hebrew Home for the Aged in Riverdale, New York. Born 1918, Bronx, New York to Dorothea Liberty and Edward Kenn, he was the grandson of Charles Miller, who was the first lighthouse keeper of the Statue of Liberty. Edward attended DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx and was honored as a member of the Arista League for his service and scholarship. He went on to City College, graduated with honors and became a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society in 1939. In 1943, he graduated from Columbia Law School and was admitted to the New York Bar Association. He began his legal career at the prestigious firm of White & Case in New York City. He was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1961, and became corporate General Counsel for Packaging Corporation of America (which became a division of Tenneco, Inc.), specializing in anti-trust and environmental cases. He was instrumental in orchestrating the opening of his company onto the New York Stock Exchange.Toward the end of his career, he came to specialize in corporate criminal law, fielding federal grand jury investigations on accusations of industry wide price fixing. After his retirement in 1987, he served as an arbitrator and judge on the National Arbitration Commission until 1999, presiding over multi-million dollar corporate cases. He married Alison Bartlett of Buffalo, New York in 1956, had one daughter Dana Lauren in 1958, and was divorced from Alison in 1963. He remarried in 1973, his second wife Margaret Linnea Sara of Evanston, Illinois, whom he always said was the 'love of his life'. Edward was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society; The B.P.O.E. order of Elks in Evanston, Illinois; the St. Andrews Society, and was a faithful parishioner of Christ Church Episcopal, Winnetka Illinois. Edward was a devoted husband, father and brother. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed being a "gentleman farmer" at his country house 'Mont Paradis' and tree farm 'Heather Hill Farm', in Wisconsin, thus fulfilling his lifelong dream to become a forester. Edward is survived by his wife Margaret Kenn of Northbrook Illinois, his daughter Dana who lives with her family in Westchester, and his brother Norman Kenn of Yonkers. Visitation will be held at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Wednesday morning only, 10-11 AM. Funeral Service will follow at 11 AM.
