E. -Ruth Smith, conjointe de Robert Turner, mère de Mike, Homosassa, Kent, Hudson, Jody et Mt, est décédée à l'âge de 79 ans.
E. Ruth Smith, 79, Homosassa, left us Sunday, Feb. 8, at Citrus Memorial hospital. Born in Epson, KY, Mrs. Smith received her BA degree in education from Eastern Kentucky University, where she met and married C. Ed Smith in 1950. After teaching stints in Ohio and Kentucky, she moved to Florida and taught in St. Petersburg. They moved to Pasco County, where she would spend the bulk of her career teaching science at Richey and Hudson Elementary Schools. Mrs. Smith became recognized and remembered by a generation of students for her enthusiasm, dedication, creativity and curiosity. Mrs. Smith was also active in the West Pasco Republican Club and the Cotee River Women's Republican Club, and she was very involved in her church and the women's organization at the First Christian Church of Homosassa. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, who passed away in 1998. She is survived by companion Robert Turner, Homosassa; sisters Eunice Vanderbrink, Oxford, Ohio, Joyce Davis, Bedford, KY, and Kathleen Stewart, Morrow, Ohio; brother David Arnett, Rockford, TN; sons Mike Smith, Homosassa, and Kent Smith, Hudson; daughter Jody Woodson-Schwartzman, Mt. Dora; and grandchildren Katie Woodson-Schwartzman, Mt. Dora, and Kyle and Sara Horrocks, Tampa, FL. Viewing will be held 5 to 7 PM, Friday, Feb. 13, at Wilder Funeral Home, 4890 S. Suncoast Blvd. (aka U.S. 19), Homosassa. A memorial service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, Feb. 14, at First Christian Church, 7030 W. Grover Cleveland Blvd.; interment with a brief ceremony follows at 1 PM at Meadowlawn Memorial Gardens, 4244 Madison St., New Port Richey. The family appreciates that donations be made to the church in lieu of flowers.
