Carter, Douglas WayneFeb. 10, 1954 - June 26, 2014Gone far too soon, peacefully in his sleep, Doug will be remembered as a kind soul who was a real people person. His last few years were spent driving a cab in Courtenay, a job he really loved because he got to interact with a great variety of people, both good and less so. He was slowed a little by type 2 diabetes a few years ago.Born in Campbell River, his passion in his teens was sea cadets, where he rose through the ranks to CPO of the Admiral deWolfe corps there. After high school, he worked briefly at the Elk Falls Pulp and Paper Mill, after which he purchased, expanded and improved his own business selling many products, such as blinds, carpets, pool tables, indoor games and hot tubs. Predeceased by his parents Norm and Doreen Carter, and only a week before, his Uncle Mac of Sidney, BC,he is survived by 2 brothers, Jerry, of Victoria, and Bob (Karen, Paul and Olivia), of Campbell River. In addition, his Aunt Loraine and Uncle Stan live in Courtenay, and their 3 children, Ron, Dave and Steve, along with their kids, live in various parts of the West Coast of North America.Being the people person he was, he would gladly give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it.A service has yet to be determined...donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association, or to the Heart and StrokeFoundation would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
