Avis de décès de Douglas Stuart

STUART, Douglas William - RN, BScNApril 8, 1958 – March 20, 2017Doug passed away suddenly from heart failure at his home in Calgary at the age of 58 years. Although weakened by a heart condition for much of the past few years, he nevertheless visited family and friends when he could and maintained active contact with them through phone, text and Facebook.Doug will be remembered with love by his brothers Jim (Sharon) and David (Cathy), and his sister Sandra (Jim) Storbakken. He will forever have a place in the hearts of his nine nieces and nephews (Laurie, Terry and Diana, Patricia, Pamela and Christopher, Karen, Tania and Derek), as well as his thirteen grandnieces and grandnephews.Doug was predeceased by two partners, Alan Blackmore (1989) and Randall Walker (2000), as well as his parents Lloyd and Catharine (Kay) Stuart of Hardisty, Alberta. There were also two stillborn siblings, Robert Lloyd Stuart (1947) and Susan Elizabeth Stuart (1953).Doug had many, many dear friends, and seemed to gather more as he went through life. After posting a notice of his passing on his Facebook page, many response posts were received from people sharing their memories, thoughts and stories. Some of these people have asked to speak at his funeral, and will be welcome to do so.Doug took his role as "favourite uncle" very seriously, consistently remembering Christmas and birthdays, and following his nieces and nephews on Facebook - sharing with joy in their triumphs and just as frequently agonizing over the various crises that befell them.In addition, Doug was so fond of his Chihuahua dogs that it seems appropriate to note that he is also survived by Fritz, Shadow and Scamp, who miss him terribly. He was preceded by Hercules, Maude and Max, who were forever in his heart.Doug was born in Wainwright, Alberta and grew up in nearby Hardisty. He then lived in Edmonton and Red Deer for several years before eventually settling in Calgary. A nurse by training, he spent much of his career managing long term care and hospice facilities. He was devoted to his work and cared deeply about his patients, many of whom he remembered and talked about for the rest of his life. It takes a particularly wonderful type of person to open his/her heart to the aged and the dying year after year without giving in to exhaustion. Doug was that type of person. We can only hope that someone like him will be there when our time comes. His generous and caring nature extended itself to almost everyone he knew. His friends were his family, and his family were his friends. If you needed a warm heart or a dry shoulder to help you through a tough time, you could count on him.A heart so big should never stop beating.A celebration of Doug''s life will be held at Evan J. Strong Funeral Services (5502 - 2 Street SW) on Saturday, April 1 at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Calgary Humane Society.
