Carter, Douglas Keith, Oct. 1925 - Oct. 2005 Doug Carter, in his 80th year, died Saturday, October 1st, 2005 in Barrie, peacefully of causes incident to age, specifically, a battle with cancer, strokes, diabetes, and more. Doug lived his entire life in Simcoe County. Doug was born October 23, 1925 in Sunnidale Township, near New Lowell, to Roy Wesley Carter, and Della Edna McGibbon. His schooling was completed in Brentwood, Ontario. Doug was a long time member of Burton Avenue United Church, and Grace United Church. Doug married Evelyn Prosser, near New Lowell, in May 1948. They lived their entire 57 1/2 years of marriage in Barrie. They had 3 sons: Clifford (Beth) of St. Albert, Alberta, Mervyn (Nancy) of Parkhill, and Donald (Betty) of Kitchener. Doug's wife, Evelyn, their 3 sons, 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, plus his brother Ken (Ina) of Port Dover, and his sister Mrs. Audrey Ziegler of Barrie all survive him. Doug's surviving in-laws are Mrs. Dorothy Legate of New Lowell, Jim (Della) Prosser of Barrie, and Harold (Flo) Prosser of Tumbler Ridge, B.C. Predeceasing Doug were his parents, 1 sister (Dorothy), and 4 brothers (Frank, Clifford, Wallace, and Roger), and 1 great-granddaughter. Doug served in the Infantry during WWII. His service was in Canada, due to loss of 2 brothers overseas. Doug worked in Barrie, Toronto and Collingwood, at Barrie Tannery, Prosser Fuels, Good Year, and retired in 1991 after 16 years with Simcoe County Board of Education, to enjoy life with family and friends. As always, he enjoyed travelling É in his truck, his Motor home and later with his scooter. Doug and Evelyn travelled throughout Ontario, western Canada and some States. Doug was always ready for a game of euchre or horseshoes, or to facilitate a practical joke. He played like a child, with children of all ages. Friends may call on the family, Monday, from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m., at Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home (30 Worsley St.), Barrie. A Service, Celebrating Doug's Life, will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel, Tuesday morning, October 4th at 11 a.m. Cremation and a private interment, at Barrie Union Cemetery, will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug's name to either the Downs Syndrome Society (Kitchener-Waterloo Branch) or Grace United Church (Barrie) Memorial Fund are appreciated.
