CHANDLER Dorothy "Dot" Wyatt Chandler passed away at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL on Thursday, November 9, 2006 after a valiant battle with breast cancer. Dot Chandler was born in Attoyac, Texas on January 15, 1926. She was the daughter of Lela and Ross Wyatt. On October 22, 1946, Dot married Jack Chandler. They enjoyed an extraordinary 49 years of marriage until Jack's death in 1996. Dot and Jack had two cherished children, a son, Dennis Chandler (deceased), and a daughter, Jackie Johnson. The family expanded to include five very special grandchildren. During her professional years, Dot worked as a physical education teacher and as Director of the Bee County Mental Health Clinic in Beeville, Texas. As a Navy wife for more than 30 years, Dot made a home for her family in many places while always giving back to the community through her many volunteer activities. Until June 2006, Dot was an active member of First Baptist Church in New Braunfels, TX. In June, Dot moved to Jacksonville, FL to live nearer her daughter and son-in-law. In Jacksonville she attended Ortega United Methodist Church where she was welcomed with open arms. Dorothy Chandler was a beautiful, Christian woman who used her inexhaustible supply of love, laughter and positive attitude as an offering to everyone she knew or with whom she came in contact. She had the innate gift of bringing out the very best in all who knew and loved her. Last January Dot was honored by many friends and family with an 80th birthday party in New Braunfels. More than 200 friends and family gathered from around the country to help her celebrate. Dorothy Chandler was predeceased by her mother and father, her husband, Cdr. (retired) H.H. "Jack" Chandler, and her son, Dennis Chandler. She is survived by her daughter, Jackie, and her husband, Rear Admiral (retired) Mike Johnson, of Lake in the Hills, IL and Jacksonville, FL and by five grandchildren: Brooklynn Chandler Willy and husband Michael of New Braunfels, TX; Spring Chandler Taylor and husband Tommy of Victoria, TX; Drew Chandler of Dallas, TX; Jeremy Johnson and wife Joy of Franklin, TN; Morgan Johnson Hanna and husband Ian of Port Townsend, WA; along with her many cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 14 at 1 PM at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels, TX. Interment will follow at Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
