Dorothy Harper Williams - SAINT SIMONS ISLAND - Dorothy Harper Williams of Saint Simons Island passed away on March 7, 2014 at Magnolia Manor on Saint Simons. Mrs. Williams was born in Belfast, Georgia on May 29, 1912. She lived most of her life in Savannah. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Savannah and an associate member of the Saint Simons Presbyterian Church. She was an elder in her church and served on the Savannah Presbytery. She was active in the Girl Scouts of America and served as a volunteer at Candler Hospital and Hospice of Savannah. She and her husband were named among the top ten volunteers in the Savannah area for their many years of service. The Williams' family legacy is evident in several institutions in Savannah, including the Georgia Infirmary and the Williams Court Apartments for senior citizens and disabled adults. Along with her husband of sixty-nine years, they kept that legacy alive. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Augustus Williams. Mrs. Williams is survived by her two daughters, Mary Williams Hartford of Saint Simons Island and Judith Williams Halpin (Larry) of Bonita Springs, Florida; three granddaughters, Karen Summers, Dottie Barrow (Bill), and Mary Catherine Hendrix (Todd), all of Saint Simons Island; two grandsons, Mark Hartford (Beth Ann) of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and John Summers of Atlanta; and twelve great grandchildren. Interment will be at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia on Sunday, March 9 at 3:00 with the Reverend Stephen Williams, pastor of First Presbyterian Church Savannah, presiding. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 10 at 4:30 at Magnolia Manor Cottage on St. Simons Island. Presbyterian Church Savannah, presiding.
